Beechwood Neighborhood

The Beechwood neighborhood is just 2 miles east of downtown Rochester. Beechwood is within minutes of two major thoroughfares, I-490 and SR 590. The neighborhood is a mix of industrial, commercial and residential areas and is close to public transit and great activities for families.

Many of the homes in Beechwood date back to the 1920s and remain in their original state with few modern revisions. A portion of the homes have been restructured into duplexes. Homes in Beechwood are very affordable with many prices around 50 to 60k. Residents enjoy walking along the streets of the tree-lined sidewalk community to reach nearby places of work or business. Residents also enjoy easy access to Rochester’s public transportation system.

Two neighborhood associations serve Beechwood: the Beechwood Neighborhood Coalition and North East Area Development. The Beechwood Coalition holds monthly meetings that are attended by many residents to discuss and work on neighborhood issues. Two establishments within the neighborhood strive to strengthen the youth of the community, Museum of Kids Art and the Thomas Ryan Community Center. The Museum of Kids Art is a performance arts-focused after school program. Located on Webster Street, MOKA calls a magnificently grandeur 3 story building home. Year around recreational activities are available to children at adults at the Thomas Ryan Community Center.

Several city parks surround Beechwood. The nearby Neighborhood of the Arts Park, whose name gives adage to the culture richness of Rochester, sits on beautiful green grounds and has a playground for local families.

The area surrounding Beechwood is home to a few Rochester landmarks. The George Eastman House, which borders the south end of Beechwood, is known as the country’s oldest photography museum. The Rochester Medical Museum and Archives, just southeast of Beechwood, keep alive the rich history of Rochester’s General Hospital.
