Allen Neighborhood

The Allen neighborhood, which is a part of the historic Allentown district, is considered part of Buffalo’s downtown. Allen has two highways passing by it, Highway 5/Main Street and Highway 384/Delaware Avenue, which allows motorists convenient access to nearby destinations. There are a number of mid-rise building that were recently built in Allen; however, the area also contains many two-story and three-story buildings, some dating back to the 19th century.

There are about 16 restaurants and bars with a mile of Allen Street, along with nine coffee shops. Groceries and supermarkets are situated within the neighborhood, and several stores carry exotic foods and Latin, Thai, and Indian menu ingredients.

At least five charter schools, including Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School on Franklin Street, cater to the children of Allen neighborhood.

Allen is close to several hospitals, including Buffalo General Hospital on High Street, which is less than two miles away. Fitness centers, including a dance studio, are also found here. Days Park serves the recreational needs of the community, along with the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site. This is the best known and only National Park Service location in western New York.  A two-day Art Festival, complete with outdoor art and craft shows, is held on the grounds of this historical park during the summer.

The Metrol Rail and 33 bus routes provide public transportation for Allen residents.
