The Summerlin South neighborhood is a planned community to the west of the Las Vegas Valley. The community is bounded to the north by Charleston Boulevard and to the east by Hualapai Way. On the southern and western sides, Summerlin South is bordered by Red Rock Canyon, a scenic desert landscape of stunning rock formations and a national conservation area, as well as a popular local spot for hiking.
Summerlin South comprises 41 miles of suburban planned community in Clark County, part of a larger Summerlin development that has a village atmosphere. Summerlin has more than 700 acres of facilities for athletic pursuits, as well as a very large clubhouse. More than 30 schools, both public and private, are located within the community.
Summerlin offers its residents more than 20 large community parks, while smaller pocket parks dot the neighborhoods. Among the amenities within these parks are ball fields for football, soccer, baseball, and T-ball; areas for bocce ball and horseshoes; courts for tennis, shuffle board, and sand volleyball; playground areas; barbecue facilities; and even motorized toy areas. Summerlin South has three community swimming pools: Trails, Willows, and Pavilion Center.
Residents and visitors can take advantage of more than 150 miles of trails to reach these outdoor recreational facilities. In 2008, this trail system was recognized for its outstanding contribution within a planned community.
Residents of Summerlin South have ample shopping at locations such as Trails Village Center, South Square Marketplace, and the Gardens Plaza, among others.
While unincorporated, the neighborhood of Summerlin South is governed largely by the Summerlin South Community Association, the local homeowners’ association. A large part of the neighborhood that faces Red Rock Canyon, known as Blue Diamond Hill, remains undeveloped.
