In the 1800s, French and English settlers formed a small community in the area of present-day New Brighton, Minnesota. The small village grew, and was incorporated in 1891 after becoming a hub for the cattle industry.
New Brighton’s history is celebrated annually during Stockyard Days. The August 2010 celebration will be the 30th anniversary of this eight-day event that features a carnival, fireworks, street dances, an antique car show, contests, and activities.
Located seven miles northeast of Minneapolis and 11 miles northwest of St. Paul, New Brighton is a popular suburb with commuters, who enjoy an easy commute along I-35 and I-694.
New Brighton is an attractive, friendly city with several area lakes, parks, a community center, and Brightwood Hills Golf Course. New Brighton is also home to the United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, a multidenominational seminary.
