Eglin AFB was established in 1935 and is home to the 96th Test Wing. The base is named for Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Eglin, who was killed in a plane crash in 1937. Eglin is one of three product centers in the Air Force Materiel Command. The base conducts tests and evaluates armament, navigation, and guidance systems.
