Schools in Niceville

Bluewater Bay is a planned community on the southeast side of Niceville, Florida. Built around a golf course, it also has waterfront homes with views across Choctawhatchee Bay. Landscaped winding streets, golf course and water views, and tree-shaded lawns combine to produce an outstanding neighborhood.

Children attend the Bluewater Elementary School. They continue to C.W. Ruckel Middle School and then to Niceville High. Okaloosa County Schools also provide charter schools, alternative schools, and home-schooling support to increase family educational options. Blended schooling, another district offering, works to combine the best aspects of home schooling and public school education.

Local shopping is nearby on Bluewater Boulevard. In Destin, five minutes way by the Mid-Bay Bridge, is the outdoor Destin Commons Mall.

An enclosed mall, Santa Rosa Mall, is 20 minutes away in Fort Walton Beach. Featuring a carousel and a kiddy train, it has more than 100 stores, a 10-screen cinema, and an indoor go-kart track.

Okaloosa means Black Water in the Choctaw language. The name refers to the many beautiful area bayous. Niceville, itself, was originally called Boggy, because it was founded beside Boggy Bayou. The state park beside Bluewater Bay is Rocky Bayou Park. Many Native American artifacts have been found on its mostly undeveloped acres.

Another nearby recreational area is Niceville’s dog park, four shady well-equipped acres near the city festival grounds. Dogs can also run free on some of the white beaches of Destin, only minutes away. Bluewater Bay is a serene community, close to some of the finest outdoor opportunities in the Florida panhandle.
