Beautiful Lakeview is named for its breathtaking views of Lake Pontchartrain. It is a neighborhood in the “Crescent City,” the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. It is regarded as one of New Orleans’ newest and most affluent neighborhoods.

Lakeview is located in zip code 70124 in Orleans Parish. Robert E. Lee Boulevard is its northern boundary. Florida Boulevard, Canal Boulevard and Interstate 610 make up its southern boundary. Pontchartrain Boulevard is its western boundary, and Orleans Avenue serves as the eastern boundary.

The land that Lakeview is built on came from land reclaimed from Lake Pontchartrain. The residential development of the area began largely after World War II. Larger, modern homes and ranchers have replaced many of the older, original bungalow-style homes and cottages.

The families of Lakeview enjoy spending time together at their two neighborhood parks, New Basin Canal Park and City Park. Alternatively, the locals enjoy relaxing with family and friends along Lakeshore Drive, a popular recreational area overlooking Lake Pontchartrain.

Lakeview children either attend schools in the New Orleans Public School District or in one of the numerous area private schools. When the children or residents need to find a specific book for class or leisure purposes, they look for it at the New Orleans Public Library, which has a branch located right in Lakeview.

Many Lakeview residents take advantage of their proximity to Lake Pontchartrain to enjoy boating and sailing on the lake. The wealthier residents belong to one of two area yacht clubs, the Southern Yacht Club or the New Orleans Yacht Club. Both clubs have hosted numerous regattas and have embedded themselves in the local culture.
