Little Woods is a large neighborhood in the East New Orleans Area, also called District 9, that sits on the southern shores of Lake Pontchartrain in Louisianna. A noted historical area of the French-founded city, Little Woods contains several major points of interest, including the Lakefront Airport and the east campus of the University of New Orleans.
Lakefront Airport serves private and charter aircraft and offers several flight schools for amateur pilots. Within a short, eastern drive down Interstate Highway 10, visitors can book a room at any one of the variety of hotels here, including Studio 6 Extended Stay, La Quinta Inn, Comfort Suites and Holiday Inn Express.
The community of Little Woods offers activities to suit any taste. The French Quarter sits a short drive to the west of Little Woods, making it an affordable place to stay in the city while still being close to the heart of the city’s culture. There are abundant parks in the area, as well as shopping opportunities.
Part of the 70128 zip code, Little Woods is a long, somewhat rectangular neighborhood bordered by Lake Pontchartrain to the north. Its western border is marked by Downman Road, which separates the neighborhood from the Industrial Canal. The eastern boundary is Paris Road, also known as Highway 47. Major Interstate Highway 10 is the neighborhood’s southern border, and allows easy access to and from other parts of the city.
There are several schools within Little Woods, as well as the neighboring University of New Orleans East Campus. Public and charter schools in the area include Osborne Mildred Elementary School, Little Woods Elementary School and Lake Forest Elementary Charter School. The south central area of Little Woods also has extracurricular martial arts schools for children and adults.
