Williams Boulevard is a neighborhood in Springfield, Illinois in the 62704 zip code. It consists of Williams Boulevard from South McArthur Boulevard in the east to Washington Park in the west. Being a boulevard, it has two streets with a grassy, treed median between. The street is tree-lined with large, stately homes set far back from the road. No two houses are the same; this is a neighborhood that evolved rather than one that was created. It is located just slightly north of downtown Springfield.
On the National Register of Historic Places, Washington Park was designed by Ossian Simonds in 1901. This is Springfield’s most popular park and has a variety of unique facilities including two man made lagoons. This large park which covers 128 acres has roads for automobile traffic as well as options for bicycles and pedestrians. There is a playground and tennis courts, but the majority of the park is for passive enjoyment. The park is home to the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon which offers concerts every Sunday afternoon. Twenty acres of the park at dedicated to the Washington Park Botanical Gardens. This area includes 10 specific garden areas, the Conservatory, and more than 1800 plant species.
