The Alfred Tup Holmes Golf Course is a historical golf site. It is the site of a Civil War battlefield and the course was named after the civil rights activist who paved the way for desegregating Atlanta’s public golf courses.

There are several parks and recreation centers in the Lauren Valley vicinity. Adams Park is a city park which features a spacious pavilion with a grill, 3 picnic shelters, a playground, a pool, a softball field, a football field, little league ball fields, and 4 lighted tennis courts.

Cascade Springs Nature Park is also nearby. Cascade Springs is one of the oldest forests in the Atlanta city limits. It contains a Civil War ruin of the Battle of Utoy and a Native American Trail called the Sandtown Road which they used to travel from the Stone Mountain area to the border of Alabama. The park also contains a spring reputed to have restorative properties. The 120 acre park also boasts extensive trails, abundant wildlife and an outdoor auditorium.

Mount Gilead Lake and Falling Water Park also offer many recreational opportunities including camping and hiking.
