The Huntington neighborhood of Atlanta is a rather sparsely populated community. With an area of 0.548 square miles, it has a population of approximately 1,500 residents. It is a primarily residential neighborhood, with about 70 percent of the housing buildings in the community being single-family, detached units of varying styles, including two-story, classic American homes and single-story, ranch-style homes.
Tucker Memorial Park lies just south of the neighborhood, touching on the southern border of Huntington. It is the final resting place of many prominent Atlanta citizens and residents of the greater surrounding area, including those of Huntington.
Huntington is quite a family-friendly community. There are many highly acclaimed, excellent schools in and near the neighborhood. Both private and public schools in the area have excellent reputations. Some private schools well-known for academic excellence within walking distance of Huntington include Robin’s Nest Christian Academy, Seeds of Promise Christian Academy, and World Changes Christian Academy. Some strong public schools accessible from Huntington are Mary Bethune Elementary School, McNair Middle School, and Heritage Elementary School.
The family-friendly aspects of Huntington extend far beyond the classroom, as well. Many local parks provide playgrounds and open parkland for families, including picnic tables and pavilions, and sports outlets. The large Burdett Park is to the southwest of the Huntington neighborhood. It has lit ball fields, a picnic shelter, an athletic center building, and public restrooms.
The National Museum of Commercial Aviation is less than four miles east of Huntington, within easy driving distance. The Delta Heritage Museum, the Teaching Museum of the South, and the Road to Tara Museum are among the more unique museums that are all located within an eight-mile radius of Huntington.
