The Deerwood neighborhood is situated in southwest Atlanta, just west of Interstate 285. Other significant roadways that bound or traverse the community include Fairburn Road Southwest, Stone Road Southwest, and Hogan Road Southwest. Other communities in the area are Ben Hill Forest, Ben Hill Pines, Tampa Park, Brentwood, and Ben Hill. Deerwood is part of Fulton County, within the 30331 zip code area.
A community park by the same name exists within neighborhood bounds. Deerwood Park offers two tennis courts, a playing field, and plenty of open green space. The Ben Hill Park Recreation Center is also located within a mile north of Deerwood. Southeast of the neighborhood is the N. Camp Creek Parkway Nature Preserve, which is mostly undeveloped parkland.
Directly south of Deerwood, along Camp Creek Parkway, is the Camp Creek Marketplace. This area retail center offers a Publix market, sporting goods store, furniture store, DSW Shoes, GNC, LA Fitness, Starbucks, and T.G.I. Friday’s. A Lowe’s and several fine dining options are also situated along Camp Creek Parkway. From steak and seafood to pizza, you’ll find it here. Two additional shopping centers are located within a few miles northeast of Deerwood – Westgate Shopping Center and Greenbriar Mall Shopping Center. The latter is anchored by a Macy’s and Burlington Coat Factory, but also offers a variety of specialty shops, a food pavilion, and a movie theater.
Just west of the Marketplace, and still within a few miles of Deerwood, is the Lakeside Country Club. For those who are invited to join this prestigious club (and can afford the dues), it offers an 18-hole championship course designed by Ron Prichard and Ralph Plummer, 12 tennis courts (10 of which are lighted), fitness facilities, several swimming pools, and a clubhouse with formal and casual dining options.
