Levy Park Neighborhood

Levy Park is a residential neighborhood located approximately one mile north of Downtown Tallahassee, Florida. The neighborhood is situated just south of West Tharpe Street, east of Old Bainbridge Road, north of West Tennessee Street, and east of North Bronough Street. Nearby neighborhoods include Midtown West, Lakeview, and Frenchtown.

Located in the northern section of the Levy Park neighborhood is a public park of the same name – Levy Park. This large facility offers various athletic fields and a public swimming pool. A popular recreational outlet for Levy Park residents is Lake Ella, about a half-mile east of Levy Park.

Lake Ella is one of the few true Tallahassee lakes – not man-made. Lake Ella is surrounded with history going back to the 19th century. The same children who used Lake Ella as their fishing spot were also baptized in Lake Ella. Back in its early days, it was nothing more than a large pond out in the middle of nowhere. Residential development changed it from “the pond” to “Lake Ella.” The area received notoriety when parts of the movie “Something Wild” were filmed near Lake Ella.

Levy Park residents have appealing shopping and dining choices bordering the neighborhood. Business thrives on the east side near the West Tharpe Street and North Bronough Street Intersection. A Publix supermarket is located here, along with restaurants and fast food places. Residents of Levy Park are only minutes away from Downtown, where there are numerous activities like museums, galleries, and special events. From March to November, residents can enjoy the MarketPlace, where locals offer fresh produce and homemade items like breads and pies.

Public schools near Levy Park include Ruediger Elementary, Raa Middle, and Leon High School. Public libraries include LeRoy Collins Library, and several specialty libraries are available at nearby Florida State University.
