Downtown Tallahassee Neighborhood

The Downtown Tallahassee neighborhood comprises a mix of the old and the new with a modern twist. As the state capital, it is an important historic government and business center. As a residential neighborhood, it is a convenient, modern place to live and work. The neighborhood is bounded by Tennessee Street to the north, Jefferson Street to the south, Gadsden Street to the east, and Bronough Street to the west.

As a leader in government, Downtown is home to the State Capitol Building, the Florida Supreme Court, City Hall, the Leon County Courthouse, and the courtyard gardens, as well as many administrative office buildings.

The neighborhood is rich in cultural offerings, with many museums located in its borders, including the LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts, the John Riley Center, and the Museum of Florida History. There are also many important historical buildings, such as the Mission San Luis and Knott House.

Residents of the are are spoiled by the choices they have when it comes to dining, shopping, and entertainment. There is always something happening in the neighborhood, from the Saturday farmers market, held in Ponce de Leon Park, to free summer concerts at Kleman Plaza.

Other popular events include the Downtown Get Down, which is a series of huge parties held every Friday that the University of Florida’s team plays at home. The event features music, food, and music, all in a street party setting. Another widely attended event is Seven Days of Opening Nights, which showcases the performing arts.

Conveniently located just minutes away are the campuses of Florida State University and Florida A&M. Downtown Tallahassee attracts an interesting mix of residents, including students, professors, politicians, the media, business professionals, and those who enjoy urban living.
