Southeast Tallahassee starts at the outer edge of east Tallahassee, Florida and extends along the Apalachee Parkway. Lake Lafayette is located on the northern boundary. Neighborhoods in Southeast Tallahassee include Copper Creek, Old Saint Augustine, and Towne East.
Southeast residents are roughly four miles from downtown Tallahassee. Apalachee Parkway is also the main road leading from the neighborhood to the downtown area.
With Tom Brown Park, Piney Z Lake, Lake Lafayette, and JR Alford Greenway all within a 15-minute drive, residents have many recreational and outdoor options available. JR Alford Greenway provides both open areas and trails for hiking, mountain cycling, and horseback riding.
Tom Brown Park, which has more than 250 acres, not only offers trails for walking and hiking that link with Goose Pond Trail but also has a BMX track bikers can utilize. The track has a separate area for kids, along with stunt and drop areas for the more experienced riders. At the south end of the park is Lake Leon. Tom Brown Park also has a dog park, various athletic fields, tennis courts, a playground, and picnic areas.
Local residents are close to many shopping and dining venues along Apalachee Parkway. About two miles to the west are the Governor’s Square Mall and the Gulf Wind Shopping Center. Residents are also only minutes away from downtown, where there are various specialty shops, museums, art galleries, and restaurants. Florida State University and Florida A&M University are located nearby.
