Franklin/Call Street Neighborhood in Tallahassee, FL

Franklin/Call Street Neighborhood

The Franklin/Call Street neighborhood is in the heart of the Florida state capital of Tallahassee. In fact, the community is situated within minutes of the historic Florida State Capitol Building. The dignified structure, with its noble exterior, sits at 400 South Monroe Street as part of the Capitol Complex, built in the 1970s to accommodate needs of expansion. The old capitol building was almost torn down. Fortunately, it was renovated and opened to the public in the early ’80s. The area is also located in close proximity to the Governor’s Mansion, which is at 700 North Monroe Street.

The community is bordered by South Duval Street on the west, East Tennessee Street on the north, Mahan Drive to the east, and East Apalachee Parkway on the south side. The Florida State Capitol Complex sits to the southwest of the neighborhood. Most of the residential structures in the Franklin/Call Street neighborhood were built in the ’40s. Apartment/condo-type buildings and bungalow-styled homes, popular during that time period, dot the community.

For legislators who like to play golf, they are not too far away from the Capital City Country Club, which is located at 1601 Golf Terrace Road, just south of the neighborhood. Shopping, another favorite pastime, is not too far away. Governor’s Square Mall can be found at 1500 Apalachee Parkway, southeast of downtown. The large Tallahassee shopping center is designed with two levels, and it features department store retailers, J. C. Penney’s, Macy’s, Sears, and Dillard’s. Shoppers can browse through over 100 stores, including such upscale brand retailers as Abercrombie and Fitch, Talbot’s, and Ann Taylor.

Residents in the Franklin/Call Street neighborhood like history as well as history-in-the-making. It’s a popular location, you might say, for anyone who enjoys being close to the pulse of government and legislative activities.
