For example, visitors to Bay Bluffs Park can hike trails that are shaded by canopies of water oaks, spruce pines, cypresses and Southern red oaks. All are habitats for birds, such as cardinals, warblers, towhees, mockingbirds, and bobwhite quails. In addition, birders who visit Escambia Bay can see such coastal birds as gulls and pelicans. On occasion, some visitors to the recreational area will catch site of the Arctic tern, which makes a stop in the area while migrating between the North and South Poles.

Orchids add a blush of color to the scenery, which invites an array of birds and butterflies to the community. Monarchs, queens, Caribbean peacocks, Florida leafwings, and red-spotted purples are all seen from time to time.

The Summer Lakes community is in easy access to the interstate as it lies just south of I-10. The scenic highway (Florida 10A) is located to the east of the neighborhood, while Creighton Road and North 9th Avenue lie south and west respectively.
