South Granada Apartments for Rent
Located between Interstate 110 and the Bayou Texar, the two-block neighborhood of South Grenada offers a bit of country living in the midst of Penasacola. Shaped a bit like a lopsided triangle, most of the 21 homes are centered around North 11th Avenue, the longest part of the triangle. The western tip is commercial, housing a Happy 7 Food Store and a restaurant named Wings on the Go. East Anderson Street winds its way through the middle of the triangle.
Lots are large, most averaging a third of an acre. The single family homes are mostly of the sprawling ranch design. Streets and yards are filled with trees, large expanses of lawn, and in a few cases veggie and flower gardens.
Several city parks sit within walking distance of South Grenada. The closest is H. K. Mathews Park, one block west. The three-acre park offers a basketball court and a children’s play area with boldly colored jungle gyms shaped like a pirate ship and a castle. Lamancha Square is a few blocks farther south and not quite as elaborate, but the three-acre park does offer a shaded walking path and a smaller playground. Bayview Park, along the Bayou Texar, lies about a mile southeast.
The Ninth and Fairfield Shopping Center sits five blocks north, offering the largest concentration of shops and restaurants in this part of town. The Cactus Flower Café, which is actually a Mexican restaurant, is one block north of South Grenada. The closest collection of shops and services lies along North 12th Avenue, offering everything from a car repair shop called the Tartan Garage to a pharmacy known as the Medicine Shoppe. Schools and churches surround South Grenada, with Pensacola High School situated roughly a mile southwest.
