Hitzman Optimist Park is slightly more than five miles east of Quail Run North. The 16-acre park has fields for baseball, softball, and soccer in addition to playground equipment. Within a mile of the community is the 110-acre Ashton Brosnahan Park. Large and small dogs have separate areas in its dog park.
Sports fans might find themselves at Ashton Brosnahan, as the Pensacola Futbol Club sponsors competitive and recreational soccer leagues on the park’s nine fields. Baseball and softball are played at the nearby John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Complex. With adjacent Drummond Park, it is home to more than 15 fields.
Fairways lined with pine trees, rolling hills, and challenging elevation changes are features at the Scenic Hills Country Club, which is within walking distance of Quail Run North. The Scenic Hills course was voted “Best of the Bay” by the Pensacola News Journal in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Osceola Municipal Golf Course opened in 1926 with a William Earl Mehlhorn design and was renovated in 2011. The public Marcus Pointe Golf Course was rated a “great value” by Golf Digest and is within five minutes of the Quail Run North community.
The University of West Florida’s main campus has more than 1,600 acres of natural woodland and rolling hills on the shores of the Escambia River. Campus facilities feature a wildlife preserve and a bird sanctuary and host more than 11,000 students.
