The Plainfield neighborhood is one of the most convenient to the University of West Florida campus, which is less than a half-mile north. As might be expected in a university neighborhood – with a country club also with walking distance – homes are quite spacious on sweeping lawns. Heavily wooded areas alternate with sunny, open areas giving a nice variety of surroundings.

The neighborhood is north of East 9 Mile Road and across from University Town Center, in zip code 32514. The west boundary is Hillview Drive and the east boundary is Barranger Drive. Several fast food restaurants and value department stores are across East 9 Mile Road in the University Town Center Mall area.

Cordova Mall, some say the best mall in town, is a short drive east. This mall has two Dillard’s stores, an Ann Taylor Loft, Coldwater Creek, and 125 specialty stores. Several eateries are here as well, including Panera Bread and Red Robin. Nearby University Mall offers JC Penney, Belk’s, and Sears. There are a number of restaurants and a huge cinema complex in the same area, all clustered near Pensacola International Airport, Corporate Woods, and Pensacola Junior College.

Great recreation is certainly close by. Escambia Bay is about two miles east of Plainfield. Also east is a large protected watershed, Escambia River Wildlife Management Area. A half dozen rivers flow through here, cool and clear, making it a favorite place for kayakers and canoeists.

Many historic sites attests to Pensacola’s long history. Plaza Ferdinand VII commemorates the spot where General Andrew Jackson named Pensacola the capital of the Florida Territories. Four forts tell the story of the early days, near today’s Pensacola Naval Base.

With the Gulf of Mexico, several state parks and a lively beach scene, residents have an almost endless variety of interesting activities.
