Ortega Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Nestled near the Ensley community in northern Pensacola is the extremely tiny neighborhood of Ortega. Consisting of just three small roads off of North Palafox Street, Ortega is conveniently located less than a half-mile from the corner of Interstate-10 and Highway 95.
The three dozen homes lining Feliz Avenue, Chiquita Drive, and Florcita Drive are modest, single-family dwellings that vary in architectural style and structure. A mix of Spanish-style and traditional Deep South 1950s-era houses predominate, with large, open yards scattered throughout with large trees.
The Ensley Church of the Nazarene is the only non-residential building in the neighborhood, but local residents have many opportunities for commerce within a very short distance of Ortega. Nearby Florida 95/U.S. 29 is a hotbed of business activity, from restaurants such as Hardee’s and Waffle House to a host of grocery stores and traditional retail stores. The corner of West Detroit Boulevard and Florida 95/U.S. 29 is also often visited by Ortega residents for its various stores, although many prefer to go a little further out to Nine Mile Square for its bevy of storefronts. University Mall, at just under four miles from Ortega, is even further out yet has the best selection.
The nearest real park is Drummond Park, just outside of walking distance. The John R. Jones Junior Athletic Complex lies adjacent to Drummond Park. It is fairly well attended by residents of Ortega, especially those with canine companions. The complex is home to the Youth Association of North East Pensacola, and is extremely well regarded within the surrounding community.
