Travis Park-Hunters Lake Neighborhood

The Travis Park-Hunters Lake region of Pensacola, Florida extends from Pensacola Boulevard east to the Escambia River. This neighborhood includes the University of West Florida and Ashton Brosnaham Park. Neighborhoods in the Travis Park-Hunters Lake area include Ashley Place, Chemstand Terrace, Fox run, Greystone, and Woodlands. The region is north of Downtown Pensacola, the Cordova Mall, and Pensacola International Airport.

Nearby parks and nature preserves include Ashton Brosnaham Park, a 103-acre regional park with soccer and softball fields, a picnic area and a covered pavilion. To the north, the Escambia River Wildlife Management Area offers an extensive preserve along a 30-mile forested river that is ideal for wildlife watching, especially via boat. Other activities include swimming, fishing, and primitive camping.

The Drummond Park/John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Complex includes several ball fields. This facility is located on East Nine Mile Road/US 90. Across the street is DeLuna Lanes, which offers bowling, tournaments, leagues, a sports grill, video and Wii games, and pool tables. Close by are a number of nightclubs, restaurants, a Winn Dixie grocery, many more retail outlets and the Carmike 10 movie theater.

For pet lovers, there are several nearby parks for walking the dog, birdwatching or observing wildlife. Beachcombers are a short drive from the beach and also have neighboring beaches within an hour’s drive for weekend getaways a little farther from home.

For golf lovers, the Scenic Hills Country Club is only a five-minute drive from the community. It offers a championship 18-hole course and beautiful greens suitable for all skill levels. Fishermen will be happy to spend the day fishing nearby. There are several local bait and tackle shops to get all of the necessary equipment for freshwater or saltwater fishing.

Shopping is plentiful at nearby University Mall. Located on the premises are Kohl’s, Belk, JC Penney’s, and Sears. There are specialty shops for apparel, books, jewelry, music, and electronics, as well as Bath & Body Works and other specialty retail shops. The mall also has a theater and a number of restaurants.
