Built in the mid-1980s, Briaroak in northeast Pensacola is a comfortable, family-friendly neighborhood. Most houses are ranch or split-level style, and many have garages and mature landscaping. This small neighborhood, which lies in zip code 32514 of Escambia County, is built on Briar Oak Drive off Northpointe Parkway. Escambia Bay is approximately one-quarter mile to the east.
Briaroak is close to Interstate 10, the main thoroughfare through Pensacola that stretches across the Florida panhandle. Nearby Highway 90 provides a more scenic drive along the bay to Pensacola’s beaches, which are approximately 30 minutes south. The barrier island beaches are known for their white sand, and the nearby Gulf Islands National Seashore park offers scenic spots to picnic along the shore, as well as hiking trails and beaches.
The Pensacola Regional Airport and the shopping and healthcare services surrounding it are approximately 15 minutes away by car. Cordova Mall, Pensacola’s largest indoor shopping center, lies next to the airport, with the Sacred Heart Health System hospital across the street. Pensacola State College, which offers degrees in fields such as hospitality management and engineering technology, is also nearby. The University of West Florida, a public school known for its small class sizes and its location on the Escambia River, is a 15-minute drive north.
Some of the largest employers in the region are military bases, and Briaroak is centrally located between Eglin Air Force Base, Naval Air Station Whiting Field and Forest Sherman Field. Many residents enjoy watching flight shows presented by the Blue Angels, the Pensacola-based US Navy flight demonstration squadron that is the oldest formal flying aerobatic team in the United States.
