Despite the name Ortega Farms, this community is anything but farmland. It is primarily residential developments consisting of single-family homes. House sizes and prices vary greatly here. Home values are much higher near the riverfront, where houses can cost upwards of $500,000. Other areas of Ortega Farms are only $100,000 to $200,000. The community also offers numerous quality and affordable apartment and condominium options.

Ortega Farms is bounded by Ortega River on three sides and lies to the north of Timuquana Road. Ortega Farms Boulevard, Seaboard Avenue, and Catoma Street are the main through streets in this community. Ortega Farms lies directly across the river from Ortega Forest and “Old” Ortega.

The largest park in the area, Ringhaver Park, south of Ortega Farms, is a longtime popular destination for softball enthusiasts and soccer fans. The park also offers colorful play areas and picnic facilities. The walking path here leads to the Ortega Stream Valley Canoe launch.

For golf enthusiasts, Timuquana Country Club is located only minutes to the southeast of Ortega Farms. This private country club offers incredible greens, gorgeous views, and plenty of upscale amenities for its members.

To the southeast of Ortega Farms also lies an important economic uplift for this area, the Naval Air Station Jacksonville. This multi-mission base —and the third largest naval base in the United States — occupies nearly 4,000 acres of land along the St. Johns River. Due to the location of the naval base, Ortega Farms and surrounding areas have a large population of active duty military personnel.
