Marietta is a rather small, primarily residential neighborhood. Commonwealth Avenue borders it to the north, and Interstate-10 borders it to the south. Interstate-295 serves as its eastern border, and several smaller, local roads border it to the west.

It was once a small farming community. Even though it’s now a part of the city of Jacksonville, it has retained a rural atmosphere in many ways. Some older ranches and farms are now preserved within the neighborhood. Most homes lie on 10 or more acres; cows and horses are often kept on these properties.

It’s a very family-friendly neighborhood, with many well-regarded schools within walking distance. Children can attend Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, Eagle’s View Academy, and RFM Christian Academy. Junior high school students can attend Joseph Stilwell Middle School and New Beginnings Christian Academy. Older teens can attend one of several private schools or Edward H. White High School.

Educational and cultural attractions are also nearby. The Museum of Science & History, which offers many displays and interactive exhibits for families, is to the east. The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is within easy driving distance to the east, and it showcases a massive collection of Meissen porcelain, as well as European and American paintings. The Museum of Southern History, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Jacksonville, and the Ritz Theatre & Museum are also nearby.

Some residents are members of the Timuquana Country Club, which lies southeast of Marietta. It offers an 18-hole, championship golf course, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a fine dining on-site restaurant, a casual restaurant, an aquatic center with a swimming pool, tennis courts, and special event facilities.
