The community of Fairfax, located just north of prestigious Ortega, was originally developed as a result of the streetcar line that was extended through the corridor to provide service to Ortega in 1908. The Grand Avenue Bridge, a historic drawbridge over the Ortega River that was originally built in the 1920s connects Fairfax to Ortega in southern Fairfax. The second and more modern Roosevelt Boulevard Bridge, was built in 1938 and also connects Fairfax to Ortega, offering ease of travel for residents going south. To the north, Roosevelt Boulevard connects with Interstate 95, so residents can easily commute to neighborhoods to the north.
