Encompassed in the 32218 zip code of Duval County, College Gardens is approximately two miles northwest of downtown Jacksonville. Florida Community College – Downtown Campus is a short drive from the neighborhood along with the Jacksonville Public Library. Hemming Park is adjacent to the library and Springfield Park is on the north side of the community college.

Waters College is situated in the bordering neighborhood of Mid-Westside – less than a mile from the community. Public schools in the vicinity of College Gardens include Smart Pope Livingston Elementary, West Jacksonville Elementary, Butler Middle, and Johnson High School.

Gateway Shopping Center is one of the closer shopping venues available to College Garden residents. Convenient shopping is also available in and around the downtown area. Locals have many entertainment and dining options available right in the heart of the city.

Residents can enjoy a variety of recreational activities just a couple miles to the south on the St. Johns River. Along with activities on the water, residents can spend time exploring the museums, galleries, and other entertainment venues located along the waterway. Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, River City Brewing Company, Times Union Center, Riverside Arts Market, and Riverside Park are only a handful of offerings located along the river.
