Westville is a neighborhood located in the western side of New Haven, Connecticut. The area is bike-friendly, with many trails for bikers and hikers. The area is walkable with a town center called Westwood Village, which is lined with shops and restaurants along Whalley Avenue. Schools, a library, and churches are also nearby. The area is bordered by the Yale Bowl and the Yale Golf Course, which has been ranked as the #1 college golf course in the US. West Rock Ridge State Park and Edgewood Park are both located in Westville. The West River also borders the area.
Homes in the area are both single- and multi-family, and some new and older apartments and condos are also available. Edgewood Park contains a duck pond and six other ponds. In summer there is a summer camp here. Also in the park is a dog run, skate park, wetlands viewing platform, and ship-shaped playground. Fishing is allowed, as is canoeing.
There are many art galleries in the area, and in the spring the neighborhood hosts an annual Westville Village Artwalk. There is a farmer’s market in Edgewood Park from June to November. The Mitchell Library, a branch of the New Haven Free Public Library, is located in Westville on Harrison Street. Students attend the New Haven Public Schools, including Beecher School for grades kindergarten through grade 7, and the Edgewood Magnet School up to grade 8. High schools include the Common Ground High School, which is a charter school, and the Hopkins School, an independent college prep high school that was started in 1660. College students can attend Yale University or the University of New Haven located in West Haven. Gateway Community College is also nearby. Commuters travel on CT Transit buses.
