The Raymond Kimbell Playground is located in the eastern section of the community. It sits next to the Kipp San Francisco Bay Academy middle school, and features a playground, a picnic area, a soccer field, and baseball diamonds.

Music aficionados appreciate the fact that the Davies Symphony Hall lies right outside of the community to the east. Home to the San Francisco Symphony, the hall regularly features concerts. The Herbst Theater is located two blocks to the east of Davies. Housed in the War Memorial Veterans Building, the facility serves as a performing arts center that offers a wide variety of performance programming.

Western Addition gets its name from the fact that the neighborhood was developed at the turn of the 20th Century as an addition to the area of the city west of Van Ness Avenue.
