Beginning in 1776, the Presidio was a Spanish military center. In 1847 and for the next 218 years, it would serve as a US Army post. Today, this beautiful, green area on the San Francisco Bay is a National Historic Landmark and a popular park. The Presidio area is a great place to live for those who enjoy being outdoors, as this large park contains a plethora of outdoor activities.
The Presidio contains 25 miles of hiking trails and 14 miles of bike paths. There’s also board sailing, fishing, crabbing, the Presidio Golf Course, tennis courts, a play area, ball fields, and a bowling alley. Stroll through the area and enjoy the 11 historic sites, the lush Presidio Forest, and the amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge from Baker Beach.
