Laurel Heights Neighborhood

As a grand, elegant neighborhood in a dynamic, internationally known city, Laurel Heights is an affluent community of homes, condominiums, and apartments. The mid-century Victorian and Edwardian homes give residents and visitors a historic feel. Laurel Heights is one of San Francisco’s most sought after residential neighborhoods, where residents live in lovely family homes that double as showplaces for entertaining. The neighborhood affords spectacular city and ocean views.

Laurel Heights is pedestrian-friendly and close to the big city conveniences. The San Francisco Unified School District serves the community, and its public schools are in walking distance. San Francisco residents are known for leaving their automobiles at home and using the city’s public transportation system. Muni, BART, and CalTrain take residents, visitors, and commuters to work or play destinations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The San Francisco International Airport and an Amtrak station are nearby.

In the middle of the neighborhood, the Laurel Hill Playground is a small park located below street level and surrounded by concrete walls. A sand area, courts, ball field, and a recreation center are part of the park. During the week, children and their families have access to a free, drop-in preschool program run by the child development students at the City College of San Francisco. Activities for toddlers and preschoolers include music and games.

Laurel Village Shopping Center provides the convenience of a supermarket and other stores. The California Pacific Medical Center, an award winning hospital for patient safety and quality, is close to Laurel Heights.

The University of San Francisco campus was founded in 1855 as San Francisco’s first university, and the private Jesuit University borders Laurel Heights.
