Central Sunset Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Central Sunset is a neighborhood in the western part of San Francisco, directly south of Golden Gate Park. Its boundaries are Lincoln Way (Golden Gate Park) to the north, 19th Avenue to the east, Sunset Boulevard to the west, and Sloat Boulevard to the south.
Central Sunset is a quiet, residential neighborhood. Outside of bustling 19th Avenue, it has more of a suburban feel than much of the rest of the city.
Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park is nearby. Rowboat and paddle boat rentals are available, and a walking path goes around the lake, providing a scenic spot of tranquility in the midst of the city. The lake is a popular spot for bird watchers, especially when the great blue herons build their nests in the high reaches of the island that lies in the middle of the lake.
Stern Grove Park, in the southeastern corner of the neighborhood, is the site of a summer festival where world-class musicians and dancers perform for free outdoors on Sunday afternoons. The natural amphitheater, where the concerts take place, is surrounded by hills covered with eucalyptus and redwood trees.
From the Central Sunset, it is a mile or two to Ocean Beach. The beach is part of the city, but feels as if it were a million miles away, especially when the sun goes down, the water and sky both turn pink, and the shorebirds scamper just out of range of the waves.
The N-Judah streetcar and several bus lines run downtown, and buses along 19th Avenue go across town to the city’s northwestern neighborhoods.
