Nearby Cummings Research is internationally known, and one of the largest research facilities in the world. Dynetics is another engineering company providing scientific and engineering support services. The University of Alabama Huntsville works closely with the space-related industries.

Huntsville also offers cultural and historic attractions. The Huntsville Art Museum is nationally accredited and the building itself is of architectural significance. Twickenham Historical District is the site of the oldest house in Alabama, the 1819 Federal style Weeden House. Other grand antebellum homes can be found in the district.
