Griffis Glen is an undeveloped parcel of ground west of Griffs Glen, also undeveloped. It is bound on the west and north by Conger Road South West and by Redstone Arsenal to the south. Triana Boulevard is just to the east. A neighborhood of small ranch homes lies to the west of Griffis Glen.

Several prominent features dominate the nearby area, especially Redstone Arsenal and Redstone Army Airfield to the south. This is also the site of the Marshall Space Flight Center and home of the U. S. Space Camp. The Space and Rocket Center has an extensive collection illustrating the history of the space program.

Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge lies southwest. This 35,000-acre refuge is an important stop for migrating birds and the winter home for many.

Joe Wheeler State Park, Wheeler Lake, and Wilson Lake are major recreational areas to the west of Griffis Glen.

Another dominant feature of the city of Huntsville is the University of Alabama at Huntsville, with almost 7,500 students enrolled. Several small private and 2 and 4-year colleges are nearby as well.

Golf courses about two miles east include Huntsville Municipal Golf Course, and Becky Pierce Golf Course, which is private. Both are about two miles east of Griffis Glen. Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove is a half-hour’s drive to the southeast.

Small neighborhood parks include Huntsville Park, Huntsville Running Park, and Archer Park. Brahan Spring Park has an Olympic size pool, Frisbee golf, paddleboats, athletic courts and fields.

Shopping is nearby at Madison Square Mall, with several large department stores, including J. C. Penney, Sears, and Dillards, and 8-screen movie theater. Three new upscale centers include The Village of Providence, Bridge Street Town Centre, and Parkway Place Mall.
