West Calhoun is a great neighborhood for outdoor recreation. Located on the northwestern shores of Lake Calhoun, the most popular outdoor attraction in the Minneapolis area, this Hennepin County neighborhood is in the 55416 zip code area.
The neighborhood of West Calhoun extends to West Lake Street on the north and West 36th Street on the south. On the west, the community extends to France Avenue and on the east to West Calhoun Parkway. At least 32 homes are included in the West Calhoun community, as are several other residential properties. You’ll also find Calhoun Commons and several businesses within the neighborhood bounds. A Whole Foods Market is located in the community, as are several Asian bistros.
The scenic Lake Calhoun offers biking and jogging trails, kayaking and sailing, fishing docks, three beaches, playing fields, windsurfing, volleyball courts, and much more. If you’re into archery, there’s even a place for that! When you get hungry from all that fun in the sun, the park offers concessions and a picnic area. Lake Calhoun also offers a pay parking lot, but if you live in bordering West Calhoun, there is no reason that you can’t walk or bike to the lake.
If golfing is more of your idea of a fun day outdoors, the Minikahda Club and golf course extends into the West Calhoun community on the south. This private club overlooking the lake offers 18 holes of championship golf. For those who prefer a more Zen approach to their exercise routine, the Yoga Center of Minneapolis is located just on the other side of West Lake Street at 4200 Minnetonka Boulevard.
If all this isn’t enough, Bass Lake Park and Wolfe Park are also located within walking distance of West Calhoun, immediately to the west. The West Calhoun community is both dog-friendly and eco-friendly.
