Marshall Terraces Neighborhood
Marshall Terraces is a largely industrial neighborhood in northeast Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is named after William R. Marshall, the state’s fifth governor. The neighborhood extends to Saint Anthony Parkway on the north, the Mississippi River on the west, Lowry Avenue on the south, and Fourth Street NE and University Avenue on the east. The zip code for Marshall Terraces is 55418 and falls within Hennepin County.
Only about 20 percent of the Marshall Terraces community is residential, and a few commercial offerings can be found that serve area residents. The rest of the neighborhood is reserved for industry, utilities and railroad tracks.
For those individuals that call Marshall Terraces home, the nearby river and surrounding parkland provide trails and other opportunities for outdoor activity. To the northeast of the neighborhood is the Columbia Golf Course, another significant area attraction. This 18-hole, par 71 course spans more than 6,370 yards. Additionally, a chain of golf courses can be found within a few miles to the southeast of Marshall Terraces; these include Gross Golf Course, Midland Hills Country Club and the University of Minnesota Golf Course.
The University of Minnesota – Minneapolis and Saint Paul campuses are situated to the southeast as well, within five miles of the neighborhood. The area surrounding the campuses has all the cultural activities, dining, and shopping options that you’d expect from a college neighborhood. This is also where you’ll find the trendy Dinkytown neighborhood, which features some unique shops and eateries. Downtown Minneapolis is within 10 miles to the south, on the opposite side of the river. Here, there is no shortage of culture and entertainment, from the Target Center, to the Orpheum Theater, to the Minneapolis City Hall.
