Boston at a Glance
North End Neighborhood
From national treasures such as the Paul Revere House to odd landmarks such as the Skinny House, Boston’s North End neighborhood is both quirky and historic. Settled in the 1630s, the North End is Boston’s oldest residential community and one of the most historic neighborhoods in Boston. Often referred to as Boston’s “Little Italy,” the North End is home to a large Italian population — giving rise to many Italian restaurants and bakeries. This area also contains several boutiques and shops.
The Paul Revere House, built in 1680, now serves as a nonprofit museum. The three-story timber house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a US National Historic Landmark. The Old North Church, built in 1723, is where the famed signal of “One if by land, and two if by sea” was sent during Paul Revere’s 1775 ride. It is also on the National Register of Historic Places and is a US National Historic Landmark.
