Northwest Seattle Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Northwest Seattle, on a piece of land separated from downtown by the Lake Washington Ship Channel, is the part of North Seattle that sits along Puget Sound. This is the part of town that faces the sunset each evening. Those living close to the shoreline can spend endless hours watching ships on their way to and from the Pacific. Puget Sound is connected to the Juan De Fuca Strait, so there is some protection from the open ocean.
Green Lake Park on the southern end offers visitors a chance to swim, fish, sunbathe, or play a game of softball. The Green Lake Park Path rims the lake, with some sections paved to accommodate wheelchairs. In the west along Puget Sound is the 220-acre Carkeek Park. Pipers Creek runs through the park, and in recent years the salmon have been returning to spawn. South of Carkeek and still on the coast is Golden Gardens Park, which offers panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains and a two-acre off-leash dog park.
Housing throughout Northwest Seattle comprises a combination of older single-family homes and collections of low- and high-rise apartments. Areas closer to Puget Sound tend to be less densely populated. Most of the area is pedestrian-friendly, but there are some challenging hills. Northwest Hospital is within the boundaries, and Northgate Mall is just east of Interstate Highway 5. A bit farther north is the Seattle Golf & Country Club and the Jackson Park Golf Course. North Seattle Community College is to the south. The Living Way Foursquare Church and Oak Lake Baptist are just a couple of the area’s churches.
