Eastlake, one of Seattle’s oldest neighborhoods, has a rich heritage and an historic feel. It is primarily residential, consisting of single-family homes, condominiums, apartments, and even houseboats. In total, about 5,000 people call this community home. Several small businesses can also be found within neighborhood bounds.
Considerable effort has been made in recent decades to preserve the unique character of this historic community. These efforts have included creating street-end parks, planting trees, and commissioning public art installations. Plans for further transportation and development are also in the works.
Lake Union is one of the more prominent attractions near Eastlake. Residents use the lake for boating and fishing, and its 12-acre park offers walking paths, maritime heritage programs, picnic areas, and other amenities. Rogers Playground is also situated within neighborhood bounds, and several large parks are located within a few miles east of the community.
Eastlake is just a short drive from the University of Washington Campus, which spans the north side of Portage and Union Bays.
Shopping, dining, and entertainment options can be found throughout the neighborhood, and the nearby Interstate 5 hosts its fair share of commercial offerings as well. I-5 also offers a nearly direct route to downtown Seattle, which offers plenty more to see and do.
