Verde Hills is a small, undeveloped part of San Antonio located in the northwestern area outside of Loop 410 and within Loop 1604. Its rolling grasslands and sparsely developed land give residents and visitors a West Texas ranch experience while still being close to San Antonio’s urban downtown area. Its name, meaning “Green” Hills, was chosen because of the two major parks that can be found to the south and east of the neighborhood.

This area is completely residential, made up of large, ranch-style one-story houses on over-sized lots with plenty of space between houses. The neighboring areas contain densely packed houses on residential streets which are a stark contrast to the Verde Hills area.

Verde Hills is bounded by streets that bear its name, North Verde Street to the north and South Verde Street to the south. These streets angle and intersect to create the western boundary of the Verde Hills neighborhood. The eastern boundary is Belga Drive and the entire area sits within the 78240 zip code.

While located within the Northside Independent School District, schools in the area are private schools including Grace Christian School and Fortress Christian Academy. AppleTree Day School is a childcare and school facility that accepts students from six weeks to twelve years old.

The major draw of Verde Hills are the two parks located to the south and east, O. P. Schnabel Park and Leon Creek Greenbelt Park, respectively. Schnabel Park has baseball and softball fields as well as playground structures, paved basketball courts, and hike and bike trails that extend into Leon Creek Greenbelt Park. Visitors can also fish and engage in nature watching activities.
