Welcome to Las Palmas, a rather large neighborhood on the west side of San Antonio, Texas. Situated just over 10 minutes from the heart of the downtown area, this community encompasses the 78207 and 78237 zip codes within Bexar County. Its boundaries are West Commerce Street on the north, Castroville Road on the south, South General McMullen Drive on the west, and Southwest 26th Street and Southwest 24th Street on the east.
This community is rather large, spanning .650 square miles. It was home to more than 3,615 residents as of 2009. Much of this community is residential. However, many commercial offerings are also scattered throughout this community as well, including a supermarket, YMCA, several banks, and a few popular eateries. The Las Palmas Elementary School is located on the southeast side of this community, and much of the Our Lady of the Lake College campus falls within neighborhood bounds on the northeast.
There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation near Las Palmas. Elmendorf Lake and Elmendorf Lake Park abut the opposite side of the college campus, easily within walking distance of home. Rosedale Park, Navarro Park, and Cuellar Park are additional parks within walking distance or a short bike ride of this neighborhood. Residents enjoy easy access to walking and biking trails, athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, and picnic facilities.
For more shopping, dining, and entertainment options, Las Palmas residents may frequent the nearby downtown area, host of the popular river walk. Additional draws and attractions in downtown San Antonio include several major medical centers, the Alamodome, Hemisfair Park, and the University of Texas at San Antonio campus.
