Not everyone has heard of Pflugerville, a suburban city situated between Austin and Round Rock, Texas. Within this little-known Austin suburb, just off of Interstate 35, is the neighborhood of Windermere. As soon as you see the bold, Gothic text on the neighborhood’s entrance sign, you’ll know you’re in a special place. Spanning less than half a square mile, this small community houses fewer than 1,600 inhabitants. Several communities surround the neighborhood of Windermere, including Pflugerville Northwest, Royston Lane Park, and Park At Grand Avenue.
The Windermere neighborhood consists of two areas, both roughly bounded on the west by Grand Avenue Parkway. The northernmost section extends to Picadilly Drive and a tiny portion of the southernmost area extends to Pecan Street/FM 1825. Gower Street and Malden Drive roughly create the neighborhood’s eastern boundary. Heatherwilde Boulevard is a more significant area roadway that runs slightly further east, parallel to the eastern boundary. The zip code for this Travis County community is 78660. The vast majority of the homes in Windermere were built in the 1980s.
The Windermere neighborhood is largely residential, but its close proximity to the interstate means that there are a variety of commercial offerings in the area as well.
Active individuals will enjoy a nearby gymnastics center, a soccer facility, and a paintball arena. A Cinemark movie theater, located a few minutes south along the interstate, provides additional entertainment possibilities.
Near the theater, you’ll also find several eateries alongside a H-E-B Foods and Pharmacy, providing Widermere residents with their local dining and shopping options.
Area schools include Windermere Elementary School on Picadilly Drive and Windermere Primary on Grand Avenue Parkway.
