Located near the northeast tip of the city of Houston, Settagast is a neighborhood of older single-family homes. It shares borders with the Interstate 610 Loop Freeway, as well as the Old Beaumont Highway. Perhaps the most interesting border is that of the Settagast Yard, which consists of tracks devoted to Union Pacific Rail.

For public schooling needs, residents have access to A.G. Hilliard Elementary, B.C. Elmore Middle School, and North Forest High School. Other options include Varnett Charter, Houston Gardens, and Lakewood Elementary, which are all nearby. Other middle schools are R.E. Kirby and 3D Academy, while high schools are Kashmere, Reach Charter, and Furr High School.

The neighborhood has several small local businesses, but there are a variety of malls within a short distance. Woodforest Shopping Center is the closest, and Northline Mall is under seven miles away. The Shops at Houston Center and Houston Pavilions are also a short drive from Settagast.

Residents have hospital care at their fingertips. Lyndon Baines Johnson Hospital is two miles from the neighborhood, and three others lie within four to six miles away: Surgery Specialty Hospital, St. Anthony’s Hospital, and East Houston Medical Center.

Brock Park and Texaco Country Club are area golf courses. Hot summer days can be spent at the Hobart Taylor or Tidwell swimming pools, as well as Hutcheson Park. The Railroad Museum of the Gulf Coast and the Military Museum of Texas are popular draws.
