Kern Place was created by successful local businessman Pete Kern, with construction beginning in 1914. Prior to this, hardship had led to him losing his business, his family, and the life he knew. Though this was not the end to his hardships, it was the beginning of Kern Place.

Nearby, at North Stanton Street and East Robinson Avenue, is El Paso’s first wine boutique and wine bar, Star Canyon Winery, which offers varietals of its own making. Plenty of food to suit nearly any palate is also available in this sector of town.
Farther into Kern Place is Madeline Park, a large park named after Pete Kern‘s daughter. This is a popular place for local gatherings, family picnics and playtime, and sports. A gazebo in the center of the park serves as a venue for outdoor concerts and other events. Alethia Park is also in Kern Place, near its northern border.
