El Paso High is an El Paso, Texas, neighborhood located about a mile away from downtown. East Yandell Drive and North Oregon Street form the corner boundary that is closest to downtown El Paso High. Being so close to the city center, this neighborhood is structured for the most part in easy-to-navigate city blocks.
The bulk of the business community in El Paso High resides in the vicinity of the aforementioned corner of the neighborhood. Other businesses are scattered about here and there, though much of this neighborhood is still residential. An abundance of city bus stops are conveniently placed throughout the community.
The International Museum of Art is at home in El Paso High, located on Montana Avenue. The history of this museum and its original collection dates back to 1925, with a location in the graciously donated Turney mansion in 1940. The doors then were able to open to the public in 1947. 1998 brought a move to its current location, in the remodeled Greyhound building. Collections from around the world are featured here, at no charge to those who wish to enjoy them.
Also in this neighborhood is the Bridges Academy. This private school serves the learning disabled, with about 70 students a year. Those suffering with dyslexia and other learning disabilities are taught with unique methods here, helping them to learn to succeed.
The First Baptist Church also has a history in El Paso High, dating back to 1882 with its original 14 people. This church has resided at its current location on Montana Avenue since 1922. Growth of the congregation has called for expansion of the church, the latest in 1997, though the early buildings are still in use. Today this congregation has more than 3,500 members.
