The College Station, Texas community of Ridgefield is located just minutes east of Texas A&M University, along Southwest Parkway. The community is loosely bordered by Haines Drive to the north, Lawyer Street to the west, Langford Street to the east and Southwest Parkway to the south. Nearby communities include The Knoll, West Knoll, and Bee Creek.
Homes in the area are primarily ranch-style, and many are available for rent. Because of the community’s proximity to Texas A&M, area homes are often rented by university students.
Schools that serve the community include South Knoll Elementary School, Oakwood Intermediate School, and A&M Consolidated High School. One of Texas’ biggest and most tradition-rich universities, Texas A&M University is located in College Station. It was the state’s first public university, formerly named The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. Today, the university enrolls nearly 50,000 graduate and undergraduate students, called “Aggies”, in over 250 majors. Texas A&M is also a popular choice for athletes; it competes at the NCAA Division 1-A level in 20 varsity sports.
A number of nearby parks offer residents a place to enjoy outdoor activities. Gabbard Park lies to the west of Ridgefield and features a playground, fishing piers, picnicking areas, a jogging trail, and softball fields. Bee Creek Park lies to the east of Ridgefield and is the site of the city’s first swimming pool. Adamson Lagoon Pool offers a separate wading pool and is a perfect spot to beat the Texas heat, especially during the summer. This park also has four lighted tennis courts, two lighted softball fields, a sand volleyball court, picnicking areas, two playgrounds, and walking/biking trails. The 17-acre “Andy” Anderson Arboretum is also located here and is open daily. There is no charge for admission.
