Sweetbriar Apartments for Rent

Sweetbriar is a lovely older residential neighborhood in South Austin. The northern border of the neighborhood is East Stassney Lane, the eastern boundary is Interstate 35, the western edge of the neighborhood is South 1st Street and the southern point is West William Cannon Drive.

The neighborhood is comprised of single family homes and a few apartments. The majority of the single family residences are single story traditional style homes, although some are two stories. These are small older houses that were built for the most part, in the mid 1960s to 1970s.

There is plenty of shopping within a short distance of the neighborhood. There is a fabulous thrift store, several electronic shops, pawn shops, a Halloween costume store, gift shops and other clothing stores. There are also many restaurants in the area, including a popular rib place known as Smokey Bones. Diners can enjoy their barbecue as they watch multiple games simultaneously on numerous big screen televisions. Individual tables are given their own sound boxes, allowing customers to listen to the games of their choice.

One of Austin’s most well known streets runs right through the neighborhood. South Congress is home to some of the city’s trendiest shops and restaurants. This area is just a short distance north of Sweetbriar. SoCo as the locals call it, is also home to First Thursday. This is a monthly event that happens on the first Thursday of each month between Barton Springs Road and Elizabeth Street. Stores that regularly close early will stay open until 10 pm or later.

Many of the stores that participate in First Thursday, which is essentially a giant block party, will have special sales and offer their customers drinks as they shop and enjoy the chance to connect with members of the community. Bars and restaurants may also have drink specials, hoping to bring people out to enjoy one of the city’s hippest and trendiest shopping areas.
