East MLK Neighborhood

East MLK is a beautiful and well-planned community that includes MLK, MLK-183, and Pecan Springs Springdale. It is located in the eastern part of Austin’s urban core. The community is very diverse. It has many residential neighborhoods. Industrial and commercial property is also located in the community.

Within the community are several parks: Givens Park and Recreation Center, Guerrero Park, and Springdale Park. East MLK is also surrounded by Govalle Park, Bartholomew Park, and Northeast District Park. It has both older homes on large lots and newer single-family homes in well-developed neighborhoods. Residents have easy access to the city thanks to Highway 183, which runs through the community, and Interstate 35 and highway 290, which are a short distance west of East MLK.

Affordable apartments, condos, single-family homes, well-constructed older residences, and large lots can all be found in this community. It encompasses ZIP codes 78721, 78723, 78724, and 78725 and is bordered by Airport Boulevard and Manor Road on the west, Loyola Lane on the North, the former Missouri-Kansas Railroad on the east, and the Austin NW Railroad on the South. Pecan Springs Springdale is in the northern part of East MLK, MLK is in the western center of East MLK, and MLK-183 is located in the southern and middle part of MLK.

The University of Texas on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard west of Interstate 35 is a neighbor to the East MLK community. The Blanton Museum of Art is located on the University of Texas campus. Another attraction of East MLK is Big Walnut Park, a nature reserve containing several significant natural communities. It has 47 acres and extends along Walnut Creek. Cedar, elm, walnut, and pecan trees can be found in Big Walnut Park. Golfers can enjoy many rounds of golf on the Morris Williams Golf Course.
