The Locustwood neighborhood in Nashville is a large, established community of ranch-style and two-story homes that are about 40 to 50 years old. This family-oriented neighborhood is located south of Haywood Lane, east of Nolensville Pike, north of Bell Road, and east of Interstate 24.

Sitting on large, nicely landscaped yards, the homes are shaded by canopies of black walnut, blue ash, red maple, hickory, and cottonwood trees. The abundance of greenery makes the community a natural draw for birds such as warblers, cardinals, nuthatches, gnatcatchers, and sparrows, as well as wildlife such as squirrels and raccoons.

Because the neighborhood is adjacent to the interstate, residents have easy access to shopping and dining. The Hickory Hollow Mall lies southeast of the neighborhood off I-24. This popular shopping complex, with more than 150 retailers, features such anchor stores as Dillard’s, Hecht’s, JCPenney, and Sears. Locustwood residents can also visit the Fairlane Shopping Center, located within the neighborhood on Nolensville Road. The strip mall is anchored by Big Lots and is within walking distance for many of the area’s shoppers.

Neighborhood children also attend one of three schools: Tusculum Elementary School, McMurray Middle School, or John Overton Comp High School. For after-school recreation, the children sometimes head over to William A. Pitts Park on Tusculum Road in the west central part of the community.

It’s not surprising that families like to call Locustwood home. With recreation nearby and easy access to area attractions and shopping centers, the neighborhood is indeed an ideal place for a family to call home.
