Of the many appealing aspects of living in Dugger Heights is the 810-acre Shelby Bottoms Greenway and Nature Park. This nature preserve includes three miles of riverside land, and twelve miles of trails that explore bottomland hardwood forests, meadows, and streams. Hikers get the privilege of spotting a wide variety of local wildlife, including birds, and amphibians. The preserve’s Nature Center building, which opened in late 2007, is a unique structure that features a “green” roof covered in living, native vegetation.
Next door to the preserve is Shelby Park. This 361-acre park offers something for everyone, including playgrounds, baseball fields, golf courses, a community center, and a dog park. The latter park is flat grassland that gives Fido plenty of room to roam.
When an action-packed destination is on the agenda, the Two Rivers Park Wave Country is the place to go. This water park features a wide variety of attractions, such as a wave pool, inflated floats, giant water slides, and a toddler’s pool.
Those wanting to play an organized sport such as baseball enjoy visiting South Ingelwood Park, which sits a short distance outside of Dugger Heights to the west. This city park features baseball diamonds, as well as a recreational center that contains a gym, meeting rooms, and a fitness facility.
